William Rothenstein

<p class="MsoPlainText">hi jan -- this is just a little something but it did answer my question to you earlier. well...my direction of research was to discover the westerners who aligned themselves with ramana and if they had any contact with the 'esalen list' etc...i began tracking frank humphreys and this lead to a site called the wanderling which named many many names from 20's/30's/40's. (<a href="http://the-wanderling.com/wanderling.html">http://the-wanderling.com/wanderling.html</a>) all very interesting. he wrote about a man named William Rothenstein who had been 'an official war artist for the Brit gov't propaganda bureau during ww1) -- now on wikipedia he is Sir William Rothenstein and among many notables he did a portrait of Alduous Huxley. wiki has no MENTION OF HIS WAR PROPAGANDA duties..simply that he was an official artist in both ww1 and ww2. interesting. the wanderling is supposedly the site and writings of a man who as a small boy had been taken by a mysterious theosophist couple to india (basically stolen) where he had an immediate enlightenment in the presence of SRM. so...it seems like flies on shit...the 'thinkers and manipulators' did go to india to set themselves up as the 'enlightened gatekeepers and channels' to westerners for the material knowledge coming out of india's holy men -- like ram dass etc. but the interesting question remains -- how much did they distort and how to get past this wall of interpreters to the real material. it may not be possible. i will continue to read this site and track names because i find it quite fascinating. dt</p>
