New Building Going Up for Dr. Caldwell
With an investment of $22,000, construction was started this week on an office and apartment building at College and Fourth for Dr. J.P. Caldwell. Architect is Dan Lyons and contractor Hazen and Clark.
The new two-story structure is to be on concrete block and glass brick, about 80 feet in length and 40 in width. The building is to be L-shaped, with a joint waiting room for Dr. Caldwell and Dr. O.E. Johnson in the center and suites for the two doctors off either side. A basement is being constructed to accommodate a heating system that will provide hot air heat and air-conditioning for the first floor and hot water heat for the second floor.
Dr Johnson's suite on the first floor will consist of a small dressing room and an office in which he will operate two chairs. Also on the first floor will be Dr. Caldwell's office, two treatment rooms, and examination and X-ray rooms. There will also be a hospital room for minor surgery and obstetrical cases.
Four modern apartments will occupy the second floor, three of two rooms with kitchenette and bath, and one having three rooms, kitchenette and bath. All walls are to be of celotex except the kitchens, which are to be of wall linoleum. The rooms will have hardwood floors.
Work is being pushed so that the structure may be completed about the middle of September.
