Antibiotics (& resistance)

Antibiotics are chemical substances that kill (e.g. break up cell wall, damaging DNA), or inhabit the growth and reproduction (e.g. disrupting protein synthesis, prevent DNA replication) of bacteria.

How resistance is gained: If antibiotics are stopped when feeling well (not taking the full course), those that are not detected by immune systems may reproduce and mutate quickly, and some may develop resistance.
