Compost
Compost breaks down organic matters to release nutrients back into the soil
Compost heaps are designed to provide ideal environment for decomposers (e.g. Saprophytic bacteria).
- Compost heaps are frequently watered can provide moisture for microbes. It also helps prevent the risk of fire since heat is a byproduct of respiration and may ignite the organic flammable dry materials.
- Compost heaps are aerated, through through holes on the bucket and frequent turning, to prevent oxygen for aerobic microbes while suppresses the growth of unwanted anaerobic microbes. Air circulations also help heat dissipation (cooling) of compost to prevent fire.
