Respiration (metabolism) of bacteria

Respiration is the chemical breakdown of food molecules (e.g. glucose) to release energy for life processes.

Bacteria can be relied on aerobic respiration or anaerobic respiration.

Aerobic respiration: \(C_6H_{12}O_6+6O_2\rightarrow6CO_2+6H_2O+ATP\)

Lactic Acid anaerobic respiration:

\[C_6H_{12}O_6 → 2(C_3H_6O_3) +ATP\]
