Passive Immunity & Active Immunity
Passive Immunity is the process where pre-made antibodies are transferred to a person, instead of having them exposed to pathogens and trigger own immune response.
- Naturally Acquired: Foetus through mother's blood, or infants through mother's breast milk.
- Artificially Acquired: Medical injections of antibodies.
Active Immunity is the process where a person is exposed to pathogens and its immune system response by producing antibodies and immune cells.
- Naturally Acquired: Antibody developed by immune system after exposure to pathogen.
- Artificially Acquired: Vaccination, stimulates active immune response and produce antibodies as well.
