The same James Watson Webb who praised the municipal police, also of the Morning Courier, was one of the men to help make the announcement that our biggest PhINO, John Jacob Astor would be starting a public library. Printing he would be donating the sum of 350k to the “corporation of the City of New York.” (show US fed corp CODE) Hmm, that’s an interesting way to describe New York…. If ya know, ya know. Another 50k would later be added on to the amount for the library, with 60k allotted for raising a new building for the Astor Library, that would come up very short of completing the building, William Astor would later donate his and even larger amount than his father did to finish the project. (Show Map) The new location chosen in Codicil 5 of Astors Will would move the building only “sixty five feet front and one hundred and twenty-five feet depth on the south side of Astor Place”. Still within reach to of that sweet sweet blood sacrifice energy laid down by the Riot, only 125 short feet away, at The Crossroads. The Opera House building would end up being turned into a place of commerce, and a hub to begin the greatest state sanction child trafficking operation the world has ever known, that would eventually become a world wide phenomenon at one point, for ¾ of a century. I will introduce this building and its occupants before the end of the episode.
