Conclusion

Duncan's concluding thoughts are linked below. Just FYI, there are no more notes or hyperlinks present in those thoughts.

Margaret Heffernan in her 2011 book Willful Blindness has a great quote that relates very well to the "wishful thinking" used in the title of this paper. Margaret notes that:

"In failing to address climate change, all the forces of willful blindness come together like synchronized swimmers in a spectacular water ballet."

The quote puts into context the magnitude of the challenges raised by Duncan's paper. Overcoming those challenges will not be easy. But the chances of doing so will be improved if the collective thinking around the relevant topics is utilized. That's the goal of the Climate Web, as we hope you've seen in exploring Duncan's paper here in the Climate Web.

It's worth noting that downloading the Climate Web makes it much faster to use, allows you to take advantage of the much more powerful search and visualization features of TheBrain's desktop software, and gives you access to a lot of additional material.

When on-line access is the way to go in terms of reaching a particular audience, extracting a topic-specific Mini-Brain is easy and makes the on-line interface much faster (and potentially less confusing because only the most relevant information is included in the Mini-Brain).

This paper is one of about 18,000 documents in the Climate Web, not to mention 10's of thousands of news stories, videos, websites, and more. Reflecting the work of thousands of experts, the Climate Web makes it possible to have a much larger conversation about climate change than is normally possible. If there's an answer to climate change it's probably in the Climate Web!
