Hot Topic Weekly Tours
Tours are a relatively new feature of on-line TheBrain software, which is why they’re also new to the Climate Web. Tours can be as short or long as desired, but we’re keeping Hot Topic Tours very short and consistent. In other words, every Tour will do basically the same thing in demonstrating the scope and breadth of a topic’s coverage in the Climate Web. Hot Topic Tours are not intended to be topical mini-courses, but simply a way to rapidly demonstrate the Climate Web’s coverage of a topic that is of particular interest to you. To keep tours brief there’s a lot of content we usually won’t include, including collections of videos, websites, quotes, cartoons, and more!
Here’s how each Tour is or will be structured. Please note that we may not have explanatory text on every thought in a tour, so get a sense of what’s covered through the list below before embarking on a tour.
- A starting thought that simply explains the topic being toured and how to navigate the tour.
- A relatively high level Index Entry serving as a topical front door into the Climate Web for the tour topic. Index Entries can contain a lot of explanatory content, or may simply link you to topical materials. A Topical Index entry will also usually be linked to other Index Entries (higher level parent and more granular child entries), illustrating some of your options for exploring further.
- A relatively high level “Sources” Heading linking to topical books, reports, articles, and PPTs, and potentially to Topical Headings for related subtopics. There are more than 800 Sources Headings in the larger Climate Web.
- A relatively high level “News and Opinion” Heading linking to topical news and opinion stories, and potentially to Topical Headings for related subtopics. There are more than 500 News and Opinion Headings in the larger Climate Web.
- An example of how the Climatographers have extracted relevant graphics, ideas, and more from one of thousands of sources, news stories, or videos in the Climate Web.
- An Extracted Materials Heading, illustrating how extracted topical graphics and ideas are organized for easy review. There are more than 500 Extracted Materials headings in the larger Climate Web.
- A representative Dashboard that “Tags” some of the best sources, news and opinion, websites, graphics, and more for rapidly coming up to speed on very specific topics and questions. There are more than 500 such Dashboards in the Climate Web.
- A representative Insights Page, authored by the Climatographers for purposes of helping users come rapidly up to speed on a topic. There are more than 500 Insights Pages in the Climate Web.
- A concluding Tour page.
You can get through a Hot Topic tour in as little as a minute, or spend a bit more time exploring individual thoughts. Note that you can click on anything you want to during the tour, and simply continue the tour by clicking on the “advance the tour” arrow.
