Nepris Introduction

Nepris Climate Site

Master Modifiable Slides July 11 12

Scientists started raising the climate change alarm more than 50 years ago, and an amazing amount of knowledge currently exists for understanding, mitigating, and adapting to climate change. Imagine if, as Carla O’Dell suggests in the quote above, individuals, teachers, and climate change decision-makers at all levels could actually access that knowledge, and specifically the “actionable climate knowledge” that would influence their decision-making and behaviors. We might stand a chance of defeating climate change!

But finding one’s actionable climate knowledge is far from easy. Virtually infinite information is available to anyone with an internet connection, but that’s a problem in its own right, leaving you to rely on the information that happens to make it to your social media feed. That’s unlikely to be the best information out there for your purposes; it’s unlikely to be your actionable knowledge.

Over decades of experience working on climate change the Climatographers came to see climate change as a communications challenge (see cartoon below), and to see knowledge knowledge management tools as key to managing climate information. That’s why we started building the Climate Web with TheBrain software; today it is the closest thing out there to a collective climate intelligence. If there is an answer to climate change it’s probably in the Climate Web!.

The Climate Web is open-access with only a short learning curve, but its size and scope can make it intimidating at first glance. Climate Sites like this one extract carefully curated information from the Climate Web, and offer an alternative way to access curated topical and audience information.

We’ve built this Climate Site for a Nepris audience of students and teachers at the K-12 level. While we’ve tried to select materials from the Climate Web that would be appropriate to a Nepris audience, we haven’t rewritten the materials specifically for this purpose. That’s certainly something we could do if there is sufficient interest, but we suspect that a lot of the content should be useful to many Nepris users. Please contact us with your feedback and suggestions.

Nepris Curated Knowledge Collections

Through the links below you can access a series of topical knowledge collections. We recommend right-clicking on the links so that you keep this page open, allowing you to easily move between knowledge collections. We’ve chosen these collections from the many in the Climate Web because they’re easy to explore, give a quick overview of numerous topics, and show how to dig deeper into topics desired.

The links above point you to a lot of information, but only scratch the surface of what’s available to you in the open-access Climate Web. Learn more through the links at right.

If you have suggestions for making our work with this Climate Site more relevant for K-12 students and teachers we’d love to hear them! You can contact us through this link
