Navigation Tips and Tricks
Hyperlinks provided in this Ebook can link you to a wide array of relevant materials in the Climate Web. The Climate Web’s basic learning curve is short, but it is such a comprehensive resource that it can seem overwhelming if you’re not familiar with the basics. The Help, Videos, and FAQS thought in the Climate Web, always at the top left of your screen when you’re in the Climate Web, is a good place to start in terms of a deeper dive into understanding and navigating the Climate Web. It includes a 5-minute Hands-On Training course. Summarized below are the kinds of places you're likely to land in the Climate Web through hyperlinks, and how to to navigate once you get there. When you are accessing the Climate Web on-line, please be a bit patient. It's a very large knowledgebase, and it can take a few seconds to respond.
Individual Thoughts. Each thought in the Climate Web has its own URL, allowing you to be pointed to a specific report, news story, or videos, or even a specific graphic.
Curated Information Collections organized via "Tags." We've organized many such collections, although you probably won’t encounter them via our extended page Ebooks. Tags can pull together any combination of resources into a curated collection, and do take a couple of minutes of getting used to.
Index Entries. The Climate Web's comprehensive Index links you to topical resources of all kinds. Index Entries for important climate topics can be a bit overwhelming, both in terms of the resources linked as Jump Thoughts (to the left), and the number of subsidiary Index Entries present as Child Thoughts.
Topical Headings. Headings organize a single type of material, whether books and reports, news and opinion, or multimedia. Such Headings represent the first step in how materials are organized in the Climate Web.
Click anywhere on a thought to center it on your screen. "Parent,” “Child,” or “jump” thoughts will appear above, below, or to the left of a centered thought. Thoughts to the upper right of a thought are “siblings” emanating from Parent thoughts.
The Notes Field of a thought (the right 1/2 of your screen) can contain explanatory text and images as well as PDFs, URLs, and videos. PDFs and videos should open up in the Notes Field itself. Click on URLs and they'll open up in a new Browser Tab.
Thumbnails located at the left side of some thoughts hold images that will pop open if you hover your mouse over the thumbnail for a couple of seconds.
Gray scrollbars may appear to the left or under the "Plex" if there is more information on display than fits on your screen. You can move the scrollbar to access the rest of the information
Retrace your last click via your browser's Backspace arrow if you want to return to the prior thought. Note that on-line you can only retrace a single click, although the “breadcrumb trail” at the bottom of the screen also tracks your most recent thoughts.
