GreenTrees

<p class="MsoNormal">"Green Trees, founded by Chandler Van Voorhis and administered by C2I, has a play of planting a mixed hardwood/softwood planting in lower Miss Valley Delta and harvesting the fast growing softwood while the hardwood trees are coming along. They work with farmers taking degraded farm land and planting it to trees, taking advantage of the CRP 15 year payment until such time as it expires (15 years I believe) at which point they start counting carbon as a voluntary sink. USDA played along with them and issued a letter saying they had no claims on the carbon after the payment period expired. After the landowners get paid by CRP for ending bad farming practices, they sell the fast growing biomass for fuel, and eventually, hopefully, 20 years out will get paid for carbon sequestration. If they can also monetize water quality credits that will be next."</p>
