Physical Climate Risks

Physical risks, including direct impacts of climate change on a company’s operations, supply chains, financial performance, and employee health, among other variables. In the near term these impacts are likely to be felt most as extreme events, but over time could take many forms including direct and indirect impacts. In both cases it will often be difficult in the near-term to differentiate between climate change risk and “natural variability” risk of extreme weather events. And because businesses are in a poor position to take steps to directly influence the “hazard” part of the physical risk equation, short of pushing for climate policy, they tend to focus on reducing their vulnerability and increasing their resilience to such risks.

It’s beyond the scope of this page to comprehensively explore these and other topics, but we’ve organized substantial resources below to allow you to dig deeper into the topics on your own.

Upon request the Climatographers can utilize these and other materials to answer specific questions you may have, or in support of internal briefings or other needs. For more information see: Topical Briefings/Courses
