Missed Approaches Procedures

one of the most challenging maneuvers especially when operating single-pilot in IMC...there is little room for error on instrument missed approach procedures, and a pilot who hesitates due to deficits in procedural knowledge, aircraft control, or mindset can quickly come to grief

At what point must you execute the missed approach procedure:

  • When flying a precision approach?
  • When flying a non-precision approach?

What is the proper procedure if the decision to miss is made prior to reaching the MAP?

Do rules and procedures require you to fly to the filed alternate after a missed approach at the intended destination?

After executing the missed approach, what factors should you consider when deciding whether to make a second attempt, as opposed to proceeding to an alternate?
