Trigger Warning

This is an important mental illness that should be recognized for what it is. Teal has even mentioned Multiple Personality Disorder, which is the same mental illness, so she has recognized it's existence as well. Posting a topic about it might help share some awareness that this illness is real and that at least person on here, so far, has it. If there are more, I hope they know that they are not alone.

That being said, I have DID, and I have, from my current knowledge, at least 6 alters. I don't let them post on here and I chose not to because I know that it is not in my best interest, for personal, private reasons. Those 6 alters "occurred" when my mind was trying desperately to protect itself from incest. All of these alters periodically "come out", causing me amnesia, which is a limited state of consciousness, and stay out inside the body to attempt to take care of me. This helps me but also gets in the way because I am not able to really live and enjoy a full and active life.

I have some awareness and mental ability, but not all. This is how I am at least able to keep my alters away from social situations. I care about them and I do want and need to take care of them, too.

I needed to get this out. I debated on posting it for a while now, but I realized that being in large amounts of pain teaches you that you really can't feel bad about some things. The illness is more important than my being ashamed of it. Other people have it and they should know that they aren't alone.
