Do you have a central "main" personality you identify with and some "alters" you talk with or you're constantly alternating? And if it's the second, when and why you alternate? </a><p class="comment-text ng-isolate-scope ng-scope" lst-truncated-text="" lst-limit="200" lst-text="comment.body" >Thanks to the writer for putting some questions out there. Interest in multiplicity is for the most part good - a process if done properly in a conversation, it will enable a deeper understanding of the human condition. The terminology the writer is using is a bit off. Such as split identity - is in part this "disorder" and part schizophrenia. We don't use the term "split" with multiplicity. It seems to divide the brain in two ... and that's not what happens with dissociation. If dissociation is all you've really ever known, it would seem a funny question to ask, if it is real. To qualify "how real?" I guess you can say one thing is more real than another, but when your talking about people's experiences ... let's just say that all are as real as others. If there was some heightened reason to be off one's natural balanced self - then perhaps he sees things more realistically or less realistically. Like is the experience of someone on drugs unreal because they are drug induced? Are hallucinations real? Couldn't it be a real hallucination? Hmm, don't seem to be getting very far here, but can you see some of the complexion in this particular line of questions? Basically, you have to ask both yourself and the other (multiple or not) What is real, and how is it real? When is things not real? Tough. As to having a main personality ... some multiples believe in the language where there is a core and the other parts are alters (basically alternates of the core person). Some people don't believe there is always a core. It sorta depends if your more to the right, or more to the left. The medical mode would most likely say there is a core and that is the "person" they are trying to get to or uncover. Constant changes in the alter would probably suggest something is very up in the air, riled up. Some parts are out more than others depending somewhat on the body/brain experience ... if it's bedtime, we're much more apt to see Casey complaining that she's not tired, but if its time to pick-up the computer first thing in the morning- definitely older parts! Some alters communicate well and others don't ... sometimes there are parts to take care of littles for example while others are doing more adult tasks. It seems that different parts have different specialties. Kate might do bills, Corey might do more of the blogging, and Jamie might argue more with Rich. BUT, any of us can do any of these things. Multiples tend to alternate to fit the environment (including people) they are involved with at the moment. We're in general adaptable.</p></div></li></ul></div></div></div></div></div>
