switching or pretending

Now that I am looking for a DID therapist I am really feeling like a fraud. It makes me wonder if half the time when I think I am switching I might be just acting. There have been times of lost time so I know it's not all fake but sometimes right before I switch when not heavily triggered I feel myself choose tonget out of the way and then another part takes over partially or to influence me strongly but I am still myself (whatever that is). Is there a chance I am overdramatizing my disorder?

I remember when I was a kid I had a primary alter like now and if I wanted him to come out I knew the circumstances had to be right so I would try to set things up for him to materialize. I really loved him and wanted him to be happy. I felt better when I was inside him than vice versa. Does this sound like DID or wishful thinking or imaginary friend?
