Event Viewer Troubleshooting
This technique may be helpful in troubleshooting crashes that are not found in the output log (see related discussion on the link above.)
If nothing is being recorded in the output log file, we can use Event Viewer to see if we can retrieve any useful info.
Use the following steps to retrieve the Application Error and .NET Runtime events from Event Viewer:
- First go ahead and try to launch TheBrain again. Take a screenshot of any error you get.
- Do a Windows Search for "Event Viewer".
- Once opened, expand "Windows Logs" on the left and click "Applications"
You should then get a list of events. Select Filter Current Log in the Actions panel on the right side of the window, then check the Error box and click OK. If you go through and click on the Error events, you should find some that say "TheBrain.exe" in the details section, below the list. You can also try to find this by trying to remember the last time the app crashed, as the errors are timestamped as well.
- You should see two sources of events in the list. The "Application Error" source and the ".NET Runtime" source. Please send us any events that match.
To send us the event logs, select the relevant events (Ctrl+Click or Shift+Click) and then from the Action menu, select Save Selected Events... and send us the saved .evtx file.
