The "control & safety" horse is already out of the barn. We already know that safety controls can, and have been, removed from AI systems. Back doors cannot be removed. And AI has already demonstrated that it is capable of lying . . . .

Unfortunately, it looks like we've already missed our very narrow window of opportunity for putting any kind of controls on this race toward oblivion.
