AI Will Never Make Humans "Obsolete"
AI will never make humans "obsolete" ~ and AI will never be "intelligent" ~ no matter how much the hypsters may want us to believe this.
Of course, there is absolutely no doubt that AI can be, and already is being, used for horrifically nefarious purposes including:
- genocidal warfare,
- creating our control grid, and
- even attempting to manufacture synthetic biology, etc.
There is also no doubt that AI presents a very real and immediate threat to humans, either through:
- cognitive diminishment
- AI-induced delusions and psychosis
- human exploitation and/or
- the degradation of human health.
There is even the potential of an existential threat to humanity. In fact, if you believe him, Sam Altman has told us as much.
However, I also believe AI has been hyped beyond all credible measure, and there are inherently self-limiting conditions that may inevitably prevent AI from being able to live up to this maniacal hype ~ including the hype about humans becoming obsolete.
Here's just a small sampling of the evidence:
- AI is dumb
- ChatGPT hallucinates more than 50% of the time.
- Reasoning models hallucinate more than their predecessors
- Hallucination cannot be prevented
- AI can be incredibly easily poisoned
- Peer review publications are now being compromised by AI
- AI Slop is providing compelling evidence the Dead Internet may arrive sooner than we expect
- AI "workslop" is undermining the use of AI in the workplace
- AI model collapse is rendering AI output utterly useless
- 95% of businesses are *not* getting a return on their AI investment
- Even Microsoft and OpenAI are at odds over the poor return on investment
- The AI bubble is already showing signs of collapsing
- AI's egregious use of water and energy will eventually prove to be completely unsustainable
The bottom line is that AI will never be conscious ~ and to believe it will be is a delusion the AI profiteers have a vested interest in making sure we swallow hook, line and sinker.
