Quick Start Tips
Thoughts in TheBrain Software
Each page in this "brain" website is called a "thought". See the individual nodes (pages) in the adjacent navigation screen, or "plex".
- The "active" thought, located in the center of the plex (in this case "Quick Start Tips") corresponds with the text located in the note you are reading now.
- Learn more about thought relationships in the "Thought Structure" detailed below.
The thought label is an (optional) description of the thought located at the top of this note panel.
- The label on this "Quick Start Tips" thought is Tips for Exploring This "Brain" Website.
- Thought labels are also visible on hover in the plex.
Thought Structure in TheBrain | Thought Relationships Demo
Thoughts are connected to one another in the plex by links that reflect the nature the "relationship" between these thoughts:
- Child Thoughts are the nodes located immediately beneath the "active thought" in the center of the plex. Content in child thoughts is directly related to the active thought.
- Parent Thoughts are located immediately above the active thought. Generally, parent thoughts represent broader, more general categories of content.
- Jump Thoughts are located immediately to the left of the active thought, and contain content that is indirectly related to the active thought
- Sibling Thoughts are located on the right side of the plex. They are are directly related to one (or more) of the parent thoughts, but they have no direct relationship with the active thought, itself.
Pins & History
- The pins located across the top of the plex are bookmarks for quickly accessing the main areas within this "brain" web site.
- The history located and tracked across the bottom of the plex represents the path of thoughts you've recently visited.
Toolbar Features
- Search will find words located in the names, labels and/or notes of any thought within this brain.
- A list of recently accessed thoughts will also display if you click within the search box.
- Plex is the default view of the adjacent navigation panel.
- Tree is an outline view of the adjacent navigation panel.
- Cards is a display of recently edited thoughts.
- For a variety of reasons, this display is potentially confusing and not very user-friendly.
- In light of this, I strongly recommend using the default plex view (or the optional tree view), and then rely on "Recent Changes" (instead of the Cards view) to review new and recently updated content.
- Types are an admin feature used to organize and customize the display of content in the adjacent navigation screen.
- Tags provide access to new, recently updated and recommended content.
