PROTOCOL — WEEK ONE / DAY V
READING
From Act to Acting:
- Cleaning, pages 66–69;
- Real Time / Real Action, pages 32–34;
- Duration and Repetition, pages 35–37.
DISCUSSION
The group held an extended discussion about:
- narrative;
- performative time.
The source does not include a complete transcript of this discussion.
Do not invent its conclusions.
COMPRESSED DAILY ROUTINE
The group was given exactly one hour.
There was almost no external guidance.
The performers had to decide collectively:
- the duration of each exercise;
- when to transition;
- how to retain the routine;
- how to coordinate the group.
The sequence included:
- three-phase breathing;
- synchronising the breath;
- Foetus / Star;
- Cat;
- Tiger;
- Lizard;
- Cleaning the Floor;
- Rice Paper / Fire;
- fire appearing three times without external instruction;
- The Dying Animal;
- Cold People, as a variation of Old People.
The group completed the sequence in fifty-seven minutes.
The protocol describes this as:
“Quite accurate.”
AFTERNOON
THE DEVILISH CREATURE — TEXT
The devilish-creature exercise was completed.
Pairs entered the centre.
Text was added to the physical material.
FINAL VARIATION
One pair attempted the last step of the exercise:
- the body no longer visibly performed the physical material;
- only text was spoken;
- the previous bodily experience had to remain in the voice;
- the physical material remained internally present.
