SUBTEXT / PHYSICAL TASK / VULNERABILITY
SUBTEXT / PHYSICAL TASK / VULNERABILITY
Subtext appears in the gap between:
- spoken language;
- bodily effort;
- emotional defence;
- intention;
- what becomes visible despite control.
The documented exercise combines:
- sustained physical difficulty;
- personal questioning;
- changing restrictions;
- attention to the performer’s responses.
Preserve the ethical tension:
Physical difficulty may alter self-consciousness and verbal behaviour, but pain must not be presented as automatic truth.
The performer’s vulnerability must not be romanticised or treated as proof of authenticity.
