COEXISTENCE / FOCUS / AUDIENCE PERCEPTION
COEXISTENCE / FOCUS / AUDIENCE PERCEPTION
COEXISTENCE
Several actions may occupy the stage without forming one conventional interaction.
A duet can occur while another performer remains still.
Voice, movement and architecture may exist in parallel.
FOCUS
The performer cannot completely control where the audience looks.
They can influence perception through:
- proximity;
- direction;
- duration;
- stillness;
- contrast;
- repetition;
- sound;
- placement;
- entrance;
- exit.
SIMULTANEITY
When actions happen together, the group asks:
- Why these materials at the same time?
- How are they related?
- Where is the dominant focus?
- Is contrast productive?
- Does one element need to recede?
AUDIENCE
The audience creates relations and stories from perceptual information.
Composition works with that capacity rather than assuming spectators require explanation.
