PROPRIOCEPTION / INCORPORATION

PROPRIOCEPTION / INCORPORATION

Proprioception concerns perception of position, movement, orientation, muscular state and relation between body parts.

Incorporation asks how an external object or machine can become part of the body’s perceived field.

An incorporated object may create ability, impose restriction, change balance, reorganise movement, produce attachment or become difficult to separate from bodily identity.

The prosthesis does not merely extend an otherwise unchanged body; it participates in constructing the body.
