WORKSHOP PROTOCOL — 17–28 MARCH 2025
SASHA PEPELYAEV — CPPM WORKSHOP
DATES
17–28 March 2025
Week One:
17–21 March 2025
Week Two:
24–28 March 2025
OVERALL AIM
The two-week process explored the construction of a:
PHYSICAL-VISUAL PERFORMANCE MODEL.
The objective was not to complete a fully polished production.
The group investigated how performance material could be generated through:
- formal structures;
- short études;
- action and reaction;
- visible transformation;
- movement composition;
- partnering;
- repetition;
- absurdity;
- props;
- live camera effects;
- projected images;
- screen-based feedback;
- optional disruptive elements called bonuses;
- selection and editing.
CENTRAL PROCESS
TASK
→ ÉTUDE
→ FEEDBACK
→ REVISION
→ SELECTION
→ CONNECTION
→ OPEN CLASS.
PERFORMANCE MODEL
The model did not depend primarily on dramatic text, psychological realism, linear plot or one fixed theme.
Instead, it generated:
- images;
- associations;
- emotional shifts;
- visual structures;
- physical metaphors;
- unexpected consequences.
CENTRAL TENSION
The workshop balanced:
FORMAL LOGIC
with:
UNPREDICTABLE MATERIAL.
The formal structure provided a readable skeleton. The bonuses introduced disturbance, surprise, absurdity, indirect association and unexpected imagery.
CENTRAL DRAMATURGICAL QUESTION
What changes?
An étude required more than the accumulation of actions. The audience needed to perceive a difference between:
A — THE INITIAL STATE
and:
B — THE ALTERED STATE.
The transformation could be physical, emotional, spatial, rhythmic, relational or symbolic.
CENTRAL TECHNOLOGICAL QUESTION
How can live video become part of the action rather than decoration?
The workshop explored communication between performer, camera, screen, generated image, movement and audience.
SOURCE STATUS
The protocols were compiled by CPPM participants. Some passages are direct documentation, paraphrased feedback, participant analysis or imperfect transcription. They do not constitute an official artist-authored manual.
