ACTIONING — TEXT AS ACTION

ACTIONING — TEXT AS ACTION

Generator: Perfume Text work in the CPPM protocol. The protocol attributes this technique to Max Stafford-Clark.

Actioning assigns active, transitive verbs to lines, beats, and units of text. It asks: What am I doing to the other person with these words? Text becomes action, not literary content merely to recite.

The method creates clarity, specificity, energy, intention, purpose, and consistency. It does not mean predetermining emotion; it establishes what the speech is doing. This is strongly connected to Verbatim: exact words remain living speech because the performer gives them an active dramatic function.
