NONHIERARCHY / HORIZONTALITY
NONHIERARCHY / HORIZONTALITY
MATERIALS
The six materials are placed on equal footing.
STORY does not automatically govern SPACE.
EMOTION does not automatically govern MOVEMENT.
The performer is not automatically more important than architecture or Time.
PEDAGOGY
Nonhierarchy supports a learning environment in which:
- materials can lead;
- participants investigate;
- results are discussed;
- no singular aesthetic is imposed.
COLLECTIVE WORK
Horizontal practice does not mean:
- no structure;
- no responsibility;
- no decisions;
- no roles;
- permanent consensus.
The workshop repeatedly emphasises the need for clear, agreed functions.
RESISTANCE
Individual refusal may protect artistic difference.
A collective does not require every participant to make the same choice.
