DAY IV — CONSENT, TAKING / ALLOWING & OBJECT COMPOSITION
DAY IV — CONSENT, TAKING / ALLOWING AND OBJECT COMPOSITION
WHEEL OF CONSENT
The protocol explicitly references Betty Martin’s Wheel of Consent.
The first relation explored was TAKE / ALLOW. The gift and action travel in opposite directions.
HAND EXPLORATION
One partner explored the other’s hand. The person exploring TAKES; the person whose hand is explored ALLOWS.
Consent had to be requested through verbal anticipation of the proposed action. The taker was invited to experience the hand for their own pleasure rather than pretend the action was primarily for the other.
SHADOWS
Possible shadows of taking included appropriation, manipulation, abuse and carelessness. Possible shadows of allowing included dissociation, exploitation, trauma and loss of identity.
WITNESSING AND MOVEMENT
The four-elements dance continued through silence, music, movers, witnesses and shared discussion.
STABILITY
The group returned to repetition and morphosis while investigating STABILITY. Each new loop entered into relation with those already present.
OBJECT COMPOSITION
Participants brought selected everyday objects and built a collective composition by adding, removing, repositioning, following existing logic, interrupting it and introducing new logic. The composition functioned as continuous negotiation.
SEMIOTIC TERMS
The protocol records signifier, signified, signifying lines and floating signifier. These concepts supported examination of shifting meaning.
