Biophysical music uses physiological information as sonic material. Sources may include muscle vibration, electrical activity, blood flow, bodily pressure and skin response.

A feedback system creates circular relation:

BODY

→ SIGNAL

→ SOUND OR LIGHT

→ PERFORMER RESPONSE

→ NEW BODY SIGNAL.

The performer does not control every result. The system also produces latency, unpredictability, resistance, surprise and constraint.

Technology is not simply a tool obeying command; it is part of a dynamic system.
