The unconscious leaks into reality
Lynch’s films—Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, Mulholland Drive, Inland Empire and Twin Peaks—should not be decoded into fixed symbols or treated as illustrations of psychoanalysis.
Dream logic infects ordinary reality: porous reality. Identity becomes double, substituted and unstable: the doubled self.
Linear causality becomes loop, repetition and return: psychic time. Sound often precedes visible explanation, producing threat, atmosphere, memory and unseen presence: sound as unconscious pressure.
Connections to Bachelard, Abraham/Torok and Winnicott are conceptual comparisons, not claims of direct dependence.
