PROGRAMME SYLLABUS — CONFIDENTIAL

PROGRAMME SYLLABUS — CONFIDENTIAL

SOURCE STATUS

Physical Lab source document: LAB — Acting Through Embodiment, Presence, and Authentic Artistic Discovery.

The original programme syllabus is labelled CONFIDENTIAL on each page.

PROGRAMME OVERVIEW

Physical Lab describes acting as embodied, conscious and deeply personal. It seeks greater skill, stronger craft, a deeper relationship with oneself as artist and a deeper relationship with oneself as human being.

Authentic performance cannot simply be manufactured through imitation, technique alone or pursuit of external results. Truthful acting emerges through embodied experience, genuine presence and discovery of an individual way of working.

The integrated areas are embodiment practices, presence training, voice, movement, imagination, improvisation, scene study and individual artistic development. The investigation expands awareness, strengthens craft and discovers authentic artistic voice.

NOT A FIXED METHOD

Physical Lab does not teach a fixed method. It offers a framework through which each participant develops an individual relationship to acting, creativity and performance.

Acting is not primarily performing emotions, representing characters or demonstrating technique. It involves becoming increasingly available to life as it unfolds moment by moment.

ACTOR'S CRAFT

“The actor's craft begins with the capacity to be present.” Presence creates conditions for listening, responding, imagining, connecting and authentic expression.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

Participants should increase presence and embodied, bodily, breath, vocal and imaginative freedom; strengthen listening and relational skills; approach text with clarity and specificity; recognise and work constructively with personal limitations and habits; understand conditions supporting their best work; build confidence and autonomy; begin a sustainable personal acting process; strengthen authenticity; and gain practical tools for continued artistic development.

ROLE OF FACILITATOR

The facilitator is not an authority providing answers but a guide creating conditions for discovery through observation, challenge, support and dialogue. The goal is to deepen awareness, expand possibilities and refine craft, ultimately empowering participants rather than creating dependence on teacher or method.

CLOSING AIM

The training asks for awareness, courage, curiosity, discipline and openness. It seeks not simply better performances, but artists able to meet professional demands with truth, freedom, individuality and personal ownership of craft. Acting becomes practice of presence, self-discovery and conscious artistic expression.
