CONSTELLATIONAL THINKING
CONSTELLATIONAL / BRAIDED THINKING
Within this year, I realized I have clearly an art historian’s comparative method transferred into live personal practice.
My question is not only what source A says, but what becomes thinkable when A, B, C and a bodily experience are read against one another.
Examples: Lloyd Newson against Song of the Goat, Viewpoints, Artaud and Laura Mulvey; Stacy Makishi through Bergman, Francis Bacon, Deleuze, Kristeva and Muñoz; Troubleyn/Fabre against Belgian cultural heritage, feminist critique, artistic directorship and the myth of genius; Jeremy Nedd through metabolism, complex systems, Krishnamurti and political freedom; Ephia Gburek through drawing, dream, anatomical landscape and non-human relation; MAI through Foucault, Agamben, Schechner, Despina Zacharopoulou and personal durational experience.
My theory is frequently produced through collision: practice + theory + image + memory mutually contaminate one another. I hate forcing synthesis.
It seems I'm inclined to assemble (in)compatible positions and together, they generate a new thought :
Song of the Goat’s voice/body fusion versus Newson’s fracture;
Ultima Vez/Decoux’s authority and discipline versus Marco Donnarumma’s affectability;
Abramović/Mishima/Liddell’s risk and sacrifice versus Ephia’s slowness and non-sacrificial receptivity;
Fabre’s structured cruelty versus Artaud’s self-consuming radicality.
