Restored Behavior as Method

Richard Schechner: behaviour “lived, twice-behaved, never for the first time.” Every durational protocol of Clarisse's MAI fast (writing her name for an hour, opening/closing a door for an hour, sorting rice from lentils for seven hours) extracts an everyday gesture from the narrative that ordinarily justifies it and repeats it past the point that narrative can hold — until only the gesture remains, uncoupled from meaning rather than carrying it.
