1960-1963 Fairchild R&D began development of MOSFET (metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistor) technology, which had been pioneered by RCA and Bell Labs.
1998 Fairchild announced the acquisition of Samsung's power division, which made power MOSFETs, IGBTs, etc. The deal was finalized in April 1999 for $450 million. To this day, Fairchild remains an important supplier for Samsung.
