2025 BBC - MI6 distances its new chief from Nazi grandfather
He joined the Red Army at the start of The Great Patriotic War, but defected "at the first opportunity" in August 1941 and went on to be a Nazi collaborator known as "The Butcher", the Nazis' "chief informant" in Chernigov.[3][4] He claimed to have helped “exterminate the Jews,” killed hundreds of Ukrainian partisans, looted Holocaust victims, and laughed while watching female prisoners being sexually assaulted –all as per historic archives.[5] The Soviets offered a 50,000-rouble bounty—£200,000 today—on Dobrowolski, calling him “the worst enemy of the Ukrainian people.”[6] The archival documents in Germany on Dobrowolski span over 500 pages.[7]
