1942 At the beginning of the US involvement in World War II, the supply of natural rubber from Southeast Asia was abruptly cut off.
Adams noticed the growth of companies like DuPont and Dow, who were doing well based on the economic value of patents. In particular, Adams wanted Phillips to be involved in developing synthetic rubber.
