1988? Mr. Fuentes's client, a rich man from Acapulco, Alejandro Braun Diaz, who had been convicted of kidnapping, torturing, raping and murdering a 6-year-old, was suddenly set free from prison after having served 2 years of a 30-year sentence.
2001 NYT - U.S. Returns An Ex-Judge To Mexico
2001 On Tuesday, after more than 12 years as a fugitive, Mr. Diaz, now 70, was arrested in San Antonio, Tex., where he had lived since at least 1993.
Like Mr. Diaz the judge, Mr. Fuentes, the defense lawyer, also left Mexico under investigation for bribery.
Mr. Braun, heir to a cruise and tourism business in Acapulco, remains a fugitive, beyond the reach of the legal system that let him loose.
