Traceability Challenges

Ideally for end-to-end traceability, whether driven by maintenance concerns or compliance requirements, is needed from the Capability level down to implementation.

EA tooling can, with various levels of success, integrate with systems of record such as a CMDB to provide traceability from the Capability level to the Service level

(Or however the CSDM defines Services, as the nomenclature may be different.)

SA tooling does not seem to offer direct CSDM integration / synchronization. Although SA tools do provide model repositories, some additional work re metadata et al is likely needed to maintain corresponding CMDB elements which implement the various services. Although a typical UML model for a solution would involve both Logical and Physical Views, it isn't always obvious whether to establish the traceability to components within the Logical vs. Physical views -- there are different schools of thought on approach to take, depending on the model maturity, discovery tool availability, etc.
