Doctrine and logic
I was talking to one therapeutic church person and I challenge them showing them a scripture where Jesus clearly talked about God sending people to hell on judgment day and would they allow that scripture to be quoted in their group
They said no that's a dangerous scripture because if it's taken in isolation it is interpreted wrongly. They were "worried" that someone quoting just that scripture is overlooking the fact that elsewhere in the Bible says that God is love and that quoting this verse in isolation outside of the context of the entire Bible would give the impression that God is non-inclusive. The very fact that Jesus came from heaven to be with us shows just the opposite.
I thanked them for their concern about the word of God being all worried about it and everything and I left it there. no point trying to persuade them of anything via appealing to the word of God
But let's look at that logic:
- god is love
- Sending somebody to hell is not loving
- Therefore: God would never send somebody to hell
Even though that's exactly what he just said.
An honest application of logic would cause a person to think to themselves:
- God is love
- The Bible says God will send people to hell so that's what will happen
- therefore: if think sending people to hell is contrary to love then my definition of love is wrong
I mean how stupid is this approach. They treat God like he's just a fellow student at the university working on his doctorate and these things are debatable and the conclusion that people reach determines what the truth is
How stupid do you think you can possibly be to actually expect that when you die and Jesus judges you that you can make arguments with him about such things and tell him he didn't mean what he really said when he said what he really meant and convince him that because he is love he can't send you to hell as he is in the process of doing
The only way this is possible is if the person does not really believe in God does not really believe in his word does not really believe that Jesus is gonna actually do the things that he said and everything is just political influence persuading people with human wisdom believing that gaining philosophical agreement from humans influences reality
