They would become nearly any foodstuff or product desired. A manufactureers consortium convinced the hapless citizens of Dogpatch that it was in their own best interests to shoot all of the Shmoo. The Dogpatch residents said "gosh we don't know anything about economics so we guess you had better go ahead".</span></p>
