Holocene began 12,000 years ago to present (entirely recent)... the current interglacial.
also encompasses the impact of humans...
synonym = <b>Anthropocene.</b>.. global significance for future of living species.
 
Note:  until 2009... boundary btwn Plio and pleisto was at 1.8MYA... now its  2.588MYA.
 
 
Pleistocene covers the period of repeated glaciations.
