Indexes vs Indices

see Parla entry... she hits the nail on the head... it IS indexes!
 
referring to a collection of alphabetical lists... it's indexes....
referrring to a collection of signs or indications, it's indices...
a personal choice... but this feels right!
 
 
Panjandrum  also has it right... depends on context;
in comp sci... collection of indexes  (not indices)
 
but  indices of disease eg  ( a collection of symptoms)</p>
