GONZALEZ, Alexander, Parietal Cortex Memory Encoding, Wagner Lab, Jan 11, 2016

This is a talk at the MBC grad training program on Monday at Stfd.

He is a grad student in Anthony Wagner's Lab.

.he shows kid with light saber (why so memorable? eg)

episodic memory..

PFC exerts exec control that selects info in WM that comprises episodic memory.

how abt parietal cortex...

he shows Lateral parietal cortex...

shows buckner, krienen 2013 slide... networks that involve par. lobe.

outline for today

encoding activity in parietal cortex and encoding behavior

and 2) encoding activity and retrieval behavior...

shows raw LFP over 2000 msec in HC.

if get big negative fluctuation then get good encoding.

see lower freq deactivated and higher freq activated during encoding...

so, PPC activity during encoding...

model is that

greater DORSAL PPC activity is corr with subseq memory success

cuz that is correl with top down goal directed attention during the encoding...

in contrast ventral PCC... activ is negat. correl with memory retr success.

shows trode coverage (in ECoG pts)

task....

see words... did you see it or not? measured by RT if successful.

x axis is time over abt 1.5 seconds

and y axis is freq power...

blue means decr in that freq band...

he compares SPL super parietal lobe vs IPS = intraparietal sulcus...

these areas are quite active during encoding...

higher activity in HGP high gamma band leads to faster RTs.

faster RTs => more confidence in memory.

then used elasstic-net regression penalization on all freq bands...

summary

dorsal PPC activity predicts semantic decision RT...
