Sean and I hit this hard.
Key intuition: current flow is entirely separate from pressure drop.
Water analogy work well. I explain voltage drop in terms of
"loss of force." (forcing all that water thru a tightly pinched pipe
causes a huge loss in force; now it is dribbling out the end.)</p>
