MEMORY MACHINE

02:47 PM, October 30, 2007

I google memory aid for elderly:

look at paper from Ireland (brief word file) and there's al so interest in Scotland.

People have clearly thought about this. Hard to do this with alzheimers or brain injury pts.

But - smooth continuum to normal people.

  Peripheral Brain OR Memory Machine

Great idea for a company ... PDA for the elderly for memory assistance; could really be extended to anyone.

This is actually a whole class of products: first make it for anyone then specialize it for elderly ... really simple interface.

It records episodic memory and semantic memory. This is the piece that is missing from Gordon Bell .

Use it to combine Semantic Memory and Episodic Memory .

Talk to Peter Holland first abt IP. Can I get patent on it? Get intellectual property.

Device for capturing semantic memory and episodic memory on PDA.

Who are natural developers of this product;

Jeff Hawkins: Palm Pilot PDA; interested in neurobio and memory; has $ himself; has VC contacts; biz experience and can see market.

(Get intro from Tina Seelig)

Harlan Hugh: in this biz already for ten years; HAS the software already ... talk with him...license this from him

Jerry Michalski: interested in this area; brain user for ten years

VC friends:   Mike Gullard;

Steve Jurvetson: disruptive tech;

Peter Thiel: singularity AI; has $.

Steve Jobs: has iPHONE and successor products; provide capital, advice, prestige.

Ray Kurzweil: wrong coast; incommunicative, too busy; not in this area.

A) put TheBrain on iPHONE with touch screen; give it audio interface with speech recog and simple command language.

B) mock up the interface on very fast computer: get it precisely correct then put it on iPHONE of the future (in 3 years).

Here's the vision:

a) I meet Debbie and Gil on the street: I've got the device with me; after finishing my ten minute chat with them: how rapidly can I record that event?

Where does it go? I say "casual encounters" (or I navigate there) .... brain brings it to center.

Add child: "name is Debbie and Gill" I type it in or it takes dictation.

"Add content" I dictate content. Hidden Semantic model tells me possible hooks or I just select associations.

Psychologist, Duke University, investment advisor, Anderson Drive, Sharon Heights, place of encounter.

It places event on a time line: I can see dozen events that I wish to remember for that day; I can locate prior events either semantically or by time line.
