Abel, Tom

(Nov 9, 2009 8:39 PM tonite I meet Tom Abel at Bill Dallys talk at SLAC ... he clarifies the following)

Hi simulations begin at 10 MILLION YRS of age when we have the WMAP/ COBE data from Big Bang

that is red shift Z= 200. you can run it up as far into future as you want.

He runs it up to the ? first gen or second gen ? stars and galaxies. You start with NO free parameters.

After things going (later on), when you get galaxies and stars then program may add parameters

having to do with masses of stars??.

Put in hydrodynamics, gravitation, etc.

Mark Thomas ( a member of CFI was at the lecture and I sat next to him)

Leonard Tramiel drove me home.

I heard Tom speak about a week ago at SETI... very tough lecture, but important.

Inital abundance : hydrogen makes up 93% of all the atoms in the universe and about

3/4 of the total mass of the universe.

Model had NO FREE PARAMETERS... nothing to tweak... just set it up and let it go.

First stars (Pop III Stars) had 30-300 solar masses. Live fast and die young....

expode and seed universe with heavy elements quite early (within first billion years

(red shift < 5 or so).

Binaries are 1 out of 5 stars.

red shift > 2 is > 10 billion years ago.

One of his movies had a rotating necker cube.
