Coca Cola

Summary: pH of Coca Cola is 2.5. The acidification is mainly from the phosphoric acid..
Look at the last article in this collection. Note: "the rel. weak carbonic acid from the dissolved CO2 did not signif. affect the pH of the beverage. The alumin cans are lined with a thin polymer of lacquer to prevent the aluminum from dissolving into the beverage .

Start with Molecules at an Exhibition: John Emsley as seen in New York Times Review
Portrait 3 is on Coca Cola. (he claims coke never did have cocaine.) Only originally did it have
cocoa and cola nut in it ... then they were replaced by chemicals. The level of acidity of Coca-Cola, which was needed for its refreshing taste, was originally due to citric acid, which occurs in citrus fruits, but this ingredient was soon replaced with cheaper phosphoric acid.
Coca cola for my purposes is caffeine, phosphoric acid, and carbonation/carbonic acid.
The last causes gas ... do not drink any carbonated beverages. The carbonation does not signif. affect pH.
There is no oxalic acid in it. The phosphoric acid is the way it is acidified down to pH 2.5.
