Increase SNR;  decr distraction;  turnoff email;  do not allow distractions;
stay on task
 
(why do we tolerate distractions:
really Bob,  what would you rather do?
focus really hard on a long, hard paper or
watch some entertaining youtube or an interesting news story?
That makes it obvious.  <b>Its hard work to stay focused.</b>..
reduced novelty;
work =  high, prolonged concentration on difficult problems (requires willpower)
fun = flitting like a butterfly from flower to flower; sipping sweet nectar. (relax; turn off willpower)
