Superminds: People Harness Hypercomputation, and More

Chapter 1: What is Supermentalism ?

In this chapter we: distinguish the supermind view, which we sometimes refer to by 'supermentalism,' from computationalism;

explain the centrality of personhood and related concepts (e.g. cognition) etc.

1.1 Computationalism is Dead

Cmput., by Fetzer;s formidable lights, isn't only dead, but didn't deserve to be alive in the first place:

If we want to understand the nature of thinking, then we have to study thought and not just the properties of formal systems.

The boundaries of thought far transcend mere computability (Fetzer 1994, p 25)
